About Us

The Television Pioneer concept came about almost 20 years ago.  This was a result of discussions between Max Drummond*, John T Frank, Russell Becker* and a small group of early entrants into the television industry.  These were all ATN7 ex staff who came up with the idea to host what was known as, the 'ATN7 Television Pioneers Annual Sydney Reunion' and they formed a committee to facilitate making this a reality.

As word spread, requests were received by ex staff from TCN9, ABN2, TEN10 and in due course, from those who had worked at many other channels from other states.  These requests were embraced as the interest in the group escalated and it then became a multi channel reunion.

The main function of the group is to organise an annual Sydney Reunion.  This is a luncheon and is held on the first Monday in December each year and attracts almost 200 guests from our 650+ database.  Some travel from interstate and beyond to enjoyed the company of friends from the early days of television in Australia.

Another role of the organisation is to pass on items of interest by email to the members.  Sadly, all too often notices about the passing of one of the 'pioneers' is circulated.  We are always looking for 'good news' to send out and encourage things of this nature as items of interest to everyone.

We have just launched this new web site to be able to reach out to not only those who know about us, but others whom may not know of us but would like to be a part of the group.  We ask everyone to spread to word so no one misses out.  There is no cost to be on the database and the annual Sydney Reunion luncheon is at minimal cost to those attending.  Please send the link to anyone who you feel may be interested.

The Committee includes: Len Mauger (Patron)
Bev Gledhill, Anne Drummond and Paul Briton (Secretary)
